How did the universe begin? Where do all life forms come from? What is the meaning of life? Are there universal standards for judging good and evil? Addressing these big questions is generally considered a task within the purview of religion rather than science. Central to the questions of how the universe and life forms began are two primary assumptions: 'something' cannot originate from nothing and the cause of something cannot lie within what it causes. These assumptions have led to a theistic world view of a creator God. Recent developments in theoretical physics, biology and neuroscience have, however, allowed Dr Clark to point out that all human thought, knowledge and achievement depend on healthy human brains. In this book, Dr Clark presents a rational humanistic approach in place of a faith-based theistic view, addressing such issues as morality and human welfare.
