Grampian refers to the former Grampian Region as it was composed before the local government re-organisation of the 1990s. That is the historical counties of Aberdeenshire, Banffshire, Moray and Kincardineshire. The author has dedicated years to interviewing the folk who grew up in the small towns and settlements of the North-east in the 20th century, painting with humour and empathy an evocative word- picture of life as it used to be. Now, in their own words, he presents heart-warming gritty accounts of Grampian lives - from the cottar hoose to the "big hoose" - lavishly illustrated with emotive photographs from family albums.
